ICST Nepal performed the social theatre on 16 th of July 2018 in Gorkha which was one of the mostly affected districts by the earthquake of 25 th April 2015. In partnership and coordination with ODRC, the tour was initiated towards the destination of Gorkha district. “Owner Driven Reconstruction” is a forum theatre which is scripted in the topic of rebuilding or reconstructing the houses by the owner themselves.
ICST Nepal in partnership with ODRC aims to aware people through forum theatre which provides a platform for the people to understand the situation and learn about the messages it holds. Forum Theatre also gives an opportunity for community people to engage in the play itself and intervene wherever they feel is necessary which we believe provides them with better solutions in rebuilding the house better than we can offer them.
Additionally, to effectively deliver high quality socio-technical facilitation services to the targeted households in Gorkha, UNDP has partnered with the Owner Driven reconstruction Collaborative (ODRC) India. ODRC is a network of experienced institutions registered in India working to support national and state governments in instituting and facilitating the owner driven housing reconstruction process. ODRC in Nepal includes four participating organizations from India i) Hunnarshala Foundation, ii) UNNATI- Organization for Development Education, iii) SEEDS Technical Services and iv) Centre for Ecocentric Development and People’s Action (CEDAP).
In coordination with these organizations, ODRC have partnered with ICST Nepal in order to aware larger mass of community through theatre. ICST Nepal is in the center producing the forum theatre to meet the objectives of the above mentioned organizations who are working for the development post- earthquake. In total, ICST Nepal has taken lead of performing 60 performances, 10 each in a month for four days for next six months.
